1200 people live in the village of Vizureşti, situated in Ciocăneşti commune, Dâmbovița county. 60% of them are of Rroma ethnicity. The main problem of the village is the poverty, many families not having enough resources to live a decent life and to send their children to school.
In this context, the Ciocăneşti Dâmboviţa Community Development Association setted up an after-school program to involve 20 children in recreational and educational activities. Medium and long-term, the association’s members wanted to increase the schooling rate.
In the after-school program 20 primary school children had been involved in educational and recreational activities three times a week, reading and practice writing, arithmetic, sports, games, watching movies and civic education. Also, other 30 secondary school children took part two times a month in personal development activities, sport, art and craft workshops.
The members of the association organized a monthly Mothers Club for 20 women to involve them in the education of their children.
In this project, PACT Foundation helped increasing the capacity of citizens to take action and got involved in the development of their community.
